About CheekyRoo

Who writes this site, why we keep our names off it, and how we actually put the club directory together. No fluff, no invented team page — just the method.

Who we are

Someone had to map the scene state by state — what's open, what's changed, what the local etiquette looks like, and what the law actually says where you live — so a small group of people who share a passion for the lifestyle, and for this country end to end, put this together. We're not a dating app pretending to be a magazine, and we're not a law firm — just a genuine interest in getting this right.

Why we don't sign our names

You won't find headshots, bios or bylines on this site, and that's deliberate rather than an oversight. Discretion is the norm in this world — for the people who read us as much as for the people who write for us. Plenty of our readers keep their own involvement in the lifestyle separate from their day job, their extended family, their local footy club. We hold ourselves to the same standard we ask of everyone else: what happens in the lifestyle stays as private as you want it to. Publishing under a collective "CheekyRoo" byline instead of individual names isn't about hiding — it's the same discretion we'd expect walking into any venue we write about.

How we work

The club directory is built the same unglamorous way most good local directories are: a mix of venue websites, official social media and member reports. We don't send anyone in undercover and we don't claim to have personally attended every venue on the list — for a country this size, that's not realistic. What we do check before publishing anything new is whether the venue is currently trading, whether the details match at least two independent sources, and whether the listing reads like the venue's own description or like something copied from a five-year-old forum post.

Venues close, change hands, or quietly go members-only more often than any directory likes to admit. When we hear a listing might be stale — from a dead website, a club's own announcement, or a reader who's spotted it first — we mark it for review and pull it if we can't confirm it's still operating. If you've turned up somewhere on our list and found it shut, please tell us; we'd genuinely rather hear about a mistake than let it sit.

The legal side works differently again. Swinging law in Australia isn't federal — it's eight separate state and territory frameworks, with different consent models and different reform timelines, which is why we keep a dedicated state-by-state legal guide rather than folding a summary in here. We read the legislation and track publicly reported reforms; we are not lawyers, and the guide says so.

We apply the same approach in other markets. For the New Zealand scene, the site that covers it is CheekyKiwis — its own dedicated site, rather than a chapter tucked inside this one.

What we don't do

  • We don't invent member profiles. We don't pad the platform with fake or "sample" profiles to make it look busier than it is, and we don't inflate numbers to make the scene look bigger than we can show it to be.
  • We don't publish member counts. We're not going to hand you a made-up number of "active singles in your city" — if we can't stand behind a figure, we don't print it.
  • We don't promise hookups. CheekyRoo is a community and an information resource, not a guarantee of anything happening on any given night. What you get out of it depends on you.
  • We don't give legal advice. The legal guide is general information researched from public sources — for your specific situation, talk to a lawyer in your state.

How we're funded

CheekyRoo is a commercial site, and we'd rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. The site participates in an affiliate program and may earn a commission on subscriptions taken out through the links to the dating platform that appear on our guides. That arrangement never decides which venues get listed, how a club is described, or where a state lands on the legal guide. A club that doesn't pay us anything gets the same fair listing as one that does; a venue can't buy a better write-up. Information about the lifestyle scene and the chance to meet other couples and singles are always presented as two separate things, never blended into the same pitch.
